Samrat Restaurant – vegetarian fare in South Mumbai …

Samrat Restaurant is one of the most popular veg casual dining eateries in South Mumbai . Located near Churchgate , it is in the heart of South Mumbai’s business area and a very convenient location. For those travelling from Pune to South Mumbai for a day trip , this is the ideal place which serves Gujarati , North Indian , Street Food , Chinese and Continental.

The menu has everything for vegetarians including mini vada pav, mini pav bhaji , idlis, samosas, chats , khandvi , dhokla amongst others as snacks. Then there are soups , followed by main course including curries and breads apart from continental dishes , salads and raitas, sandwiches and desserts . But the highlight of the restaurant is the Gujarati Thali with farsaan , vegetables , delectable gujarati dal and kadhi , pulao /khichadi and plain rice , phulkas and puries all this followed by limited sweet items. The menu changes everyday but the day we tried the thali was filled with all interesting items like puran poli, samosa , shrikhand apart from four vegetables , dal , kadhi and rice. As accompaniment they also serve onion slices , Chunda ( sweet and sour pickle ) and mint chutney ,  which all go well with papad if you are a fan of that . There is a mini meal for children as well. If thali is too much then one can order individual items like Dal Dhokli along with phulkas or go for combo meals. Some of the sweet dishes here like custard , shrikhand, dudhi halwa , aamras are worth trying .

The two storeyed place has ample capacity and the service is prompt. With it’s food , location , ambience and service this is definitely a place worth multiple visits !
